Drawings arise from the urge for renewal, in a state of fermentation. Immersion before a sheet of paper is perhaps easier, or is easier because it recalls thoughts.
Maria Lassnig 1919-2014
Since its foundation in 1974 it has been the tradition of the Ulysses Gallery to present not only the most important representatives of contemporary Austrian art (Günter Brus, Bruno Gironcoli, Wolfgang Hollegha, Hans Hollein, Maria Lassnig, Walter Pichler, Markus Prachensky, Karl Prantl, Arnulf Rainer, Andreas Urteil, Fritz Wotruba), but also to hold regular exhibitions of internationally acclaimed artists, in particular those from America (Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, Milton Avery, Stuart Davis, Jackson Pollock, Larry Rivers). Karel Appel is represented by Galerie Ulysses since 1995 and Antonio Saura since 2006. The gallery has been involved in many international museum projects und publishes catalogues regularly.
