In Veronika Dirnhofers latest series of large paintings, curves and roundings wiggle and meander on the canvas and create an interplay between the void and the body of lines. A shapeshifting fluidity inhabits the work of the artist that says, “I am many and I enjoy it.” The social ambience throughout the current pandemic times as well as her current position in life as a mid-career artist and woman are reflected in Dirnhofers recent works that form and transform resonant bodies in an entangled world.
Veronika Dirnhofer (*1967) is professor and head of the drawing department at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Drawing, painting, ceramics, collage, and installation are all part of her hybrid body of work. She is inspired by landscape, literature, politics, and human relations and resistant by nature: just when the audience has decided on a label for her work, she escapes, revolts, and reinvents her approaches as well as her visual language and gathers intensity through this process. Courage in color, content and line yet are persistent in her art.
Galerie3 is one of the most vibrant places for contemporary art in the South of Austria and beyond. Since its founding in 1996 the gallery for contemporary art is located in a historic building in the city center of Klagenfurt, Carinthia, Austria and it is now headed by the second generation who has relaunched the gallery program. Under the new leadership Galerie3 2019 furthermore expanded to a second location, Galerie3 Velden, close to the shores of Wörthersee. The project branch Flux23 promotes art in public and organizes several yearly exhibitions and artistic interventions in changing locations in Vienna and Carinthia.
