“My works are created by a previously established system of rules, generated chance and time. My set of rules, which limits the infinite possibilities of chance to a narrow framework, produces layers of time, thus making the artwork visible. That is why these works cannot really be regarded as my own exclusive creations, they are rather the result of curious phenomena that are independent of me, the collision of a geometric order and the unpredictable.” András Wolsky
András Wolsky (1969) was born in Budapest. He graduated from the Hungarian College of Fine Arts in 1998 on the Intermedia, between 1996 and 1998 on the Postgraduate Painter, in 1996 on the Painter and between 1991 and 1996 on the Graphic Design Department. In 1995 he won the scholarship of the International Sommerakademie für Bildende Kunst in Salzburg, in 1996 he was awarded with an “Artist in residence” scholarship of the Collegium Hungaricum in Paris. Wolsky is a member of the National Association of Hungarian Artists since 1996 and of the Studio of Young Artists Association since 1997. In 2000 he received the STRABAG Painting Prize, in 2001 he was awarded with the Fine Arts Scholarship of the Hungarian Academy of Rome. He won the Barcsay Prize in 2002. Since 2013 he is a member of the Open Structures Art Society (OSAS). In 2014 he won a residency scholarship by the Mouans-Sartoux Espace de l’Art Concret in France.
Ani Molnár Gallery, established in 2009, developed a high international profile and is amongst the most active galleries in Budapest. Its focus is placed particularly on the international representation of Hungarian and Eastern European artists, giving priority to discovery and promotion of emerging talents and re-discovery of senior masters. The artists represented by the gallery predominantly have conceptual profiles, they work with the use of a large variety of media, such as installations, painting, photography, new media and video. Further aim of gallery’s exhibition program is to show new directions of geometrical abstract painting. Its program encourages dialogue on contemporary artistic positions, as well as cultural, social and political issues, which is facilitated by the international and generational diversity of the represented and invited artists. The gallery’s artists regularly exhibit in major international art events and museums and have works in prestigious collections. The gallery is active in supporting the development of the local art scene by taking a leading role in non-profit events. There is a special focus on the representation of artists at international art fairs like The Armory Show in New York, Art Brussels, Artissima in Turin, ARCOmadrid, as well as specialized and regional art fairs such as LOOP Barcelona, Art Genéve, viennacontemporary and Art Market Budapest. In 2019 gallery’s artist Tamás Waliczky exhibited at the Hungarian Pavilion in Venice, after his solo show was featured at the gallery. Eight artists of the gallery represented their respective countries at the Venice Biennale in the past. In 2013 Ani Molnár Gallery was the first Eastern European gallery to receive the F.E.A.G.A. Innovation and Creativity Award in Basel.
