brunand brunand is glad to present a selection of paintings that Galli produced between 1981 and 1989 in Berlin.
Born 1944 in Heusweiler, DE – lives and works in Berlin, DE. Establishing herself amidst the tumultuous, hedonistic spirit of the West Berlin art scene in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Galli rejected the austere visual language of conceptual art and embraced narrative forms and subjective experience. Fragmented objects, human limbs, and amorphous blobs are playfully melded together in her drawings and paintings. Galli determinedly blazed her own path within a generation dominated by the (male) painters of the New Fauves. Fundamental to her work are the physical and psychological torment of her figures and her agile intellectual play with literature and language. Galli became a prominent figure of her generation in Germany, presenting solo exhibitions in countless galleries as well as Forum Kunst Rottweil, the Bodensee Museum in Friedrichshafen, and the Salzburger Kunstverein. In 2020 her works were on view at the KW in the context of the 11th Berlin Biennale, and in 2022 she had her first solo show with brunand brunand gallery, Berlin. (Fragments of a text by Michèle Faguet)
Gallery est. May 2021 specialized in contemporary art founded by Christian Falsnaes and Daniela Brunand, who since 2022 has been running the gallery independently. This Spring the gallery will relocate to a new space on the Potsdamer Straße 70, 10785 Berlin. Upcoming show with artist Dudu Quintanilha will open on the occasion of the Gallery Weekend Berlin, April 29 – May 1.
