Dorit Margreiter investigates transfers and translations of architecture and materiality into different forms of media representation in relation to different contexts. At the Spark we will show new works, that have in common the use of mirrors. Lager panels with acrylic lacquer on glass and a mobile, which refracts light back onto the viewers in the room and thus creates an experience of space and movement, which relate also to her film and video work.
Dorit Margreiter (* 1967 in Vienna) is a photographer, video and installation artist. She studied at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna 1988-1992. From 1997 to 1998 she participated in the International Studio Program of Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin. In 2001 she was artist in residence at the MAK Center for Art and Architecture/artist in residence, Los Angeles. In 2001 she received the Georg Eisler Prize and in 2002 the Otto Mauer Prize, Vienna. For her appearance at the 53rd Venice Biennale in 2009, she had a side wing of the Austrian pavilion converted into a cinema and simultaneously used it as a filming location for a silent film shown there (Pavilion, 2009 35mm, b/w, silent, 8min). „I wanted to explore this space, which appears to be a historic garden house but is completely unsuitable as a contemporary exhibition space, as a cinematic and sculptural space. I was particularly interested in the architecture of the pavilion with its spectacular light shows.“ Margreiter is the professor for video and video installation at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna. She lives and works in Vienna.

Artists from a younger generation are Markus Krottendorfer, Robert Muntean, Daniel Pitin, Alfons Pressnitz, Roberta Lima and Tamuna Sirbiladze. Along with solo shows the gallery also focus on thematic group shows dealing with issues of society, which are located within the political discourse of our time.
