Galerie Ernst Hilger
Jakob Kirchmayr
Jakob Kirchmayr (1975) creates atmospheres – also for the creative process: he works with literature in his head. “I am fascinated by the compression of the texts,” he enthuses. “Being able to say everything with very little. Texts that are charged with so much content and emotion. ”This is how you could also describe his brushstroke, which is filigree and expressive at the same time. Kirchmayr tells a lot in his work – also because he works without a sketch and so sometimes shift by shift. “There is all the spontaneity in the sketch; the first idea, the first impulse. If you want to transfer a good sketch, you will never achieve its quality again. The spontaneous is lost in the transmission, the lines lose their dynamism. ”This is how he preserves them. And this is how emotional, dense works are created.

Galerie Ernst Hilger
Galerie Ernst Hilger (founded 1971) at Dorotheergasse 5 (first floor) in
Vienna’s 1st district represents the works of artists such as Erró and Mel
Ramos, along with exponents of Austrian modernism from the 1960s
onward and the main exponents of the most important international art
movements of the 20th century. Hilger NEXT assembles those positions
and provides artists from cutting-edge countries with a platform. The
gallery’s labor has been rewarded through the participation of its artists in
important international exhibitions and biennales over the past years: such
as Ángel MARCOS, Simon VEGA, and Cameron PLATTER at the Biennale
di Venezia 2013. In order to extend the cooperation with international
museums the HilgerBROTKunsthalle was inaugurated in 2009.
