We are very pleased to participate in SPARK Art Fair Vienna with a solo presentation of Marie Bovo’s work. The booth features three emblematic series of the photographer: Cours intérieures, Grisailles and Jours blancs. Marie Bovo works with images, both video and photographic. Her photographs play with duality and antinomy. Deeply rooted in reality, they sometimes raise geopolitical and social issues. Her work reveals a dual perspective on things, making a simple and unique situation express a universal dimension, where the past meets the present, where different cultures, especially those of the Mediterranean world connect to each other.
Born in 1967 in Alicante (Spain), MARIE BOVO lives and works in Marseille. Her work has been the object of solo exhibitions at the Rencontres de la Photographie in Arles; at La Chambre, Strasbourg; at the Fondation Fernet-Branca, Saint-Louis; at the California Museum of Photography, Riverside; at FRAC Paca and MAC Musée d’art contemporain, Marseille; at the Institut Français de Madrid; at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris; at Luís Serpa Projectos, Lisbon; and at the ERA Foundation in Moscow. Her work has also been featured in many group exhibitions, including at the Institut Culturel Bernard Magrez, Bordeaux; at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; at Maxxi in Rome; at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris; at MAC Musée d’Art Contemporain, Marseille; and in the Busan Biennale, Korea. In 2016, Marie Bovo was nominated for the ICP Infinity Awards in New York, for her exhibition La danse de l’ours [The Bear Dance] at FRAC Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. In 2020, the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson in Paris devoted a personal exhibition to her work. Her photographs are currently exhibited in the group exhibition „Belonging“ at The Hunt Museum in Limerick (Ireland) until April 24, 2022.
Since 1999, Kamel Mennour presents in his four Parisian galleries (47 rue Saint-André-des-Arts, 5&6 rue du Pont de Lodi and 28 Avenue Matignon) the works of 40 contemporary artists who are internationally recognized. Through exhibitions, biennales, fairs all over the world and the publication of catalogues, kamel mennour presents, supports and defends the work of artists such as Mohamed Bourouissa, Daniel Buren, Petrit Halilaj, Camille Henrot, Anish Kapoor, Tadashi Kawamata, Alicja Kwade, Bertrand Lavier, Lee Ufan, François Morellet, Ugo Rondinone. From April to November 2022, two artists of the gallery are representing national pavilions during the 59th Venice Biennale: Latifa Echakhch for Switzerland and Zineb Sedira for France.
