Pedro Vaz, Maputo, 1977. Graduate in painting at Fine Arts Faculty – Lisbon University (2006). Lives and works in Lisbon. His artistic work focuses on a research on nature and landscape making use mostly of painting, video and installation. Personal contact with the place is central to his practice and projects very often include a field tour. Past projects featured locations such as Amazonia (Br.), Tour du Mont Blanc (Fr. It. Ch.) or the Superstition Mountains (USA). Has been working with projects such as 111 Gallery (Lisbon), Kubikgallery (Oporto), Baró Gallery or Luisa Strina Gallery (São Paulo). Currently the artist is, amongst others, preparing three major projects. Two solo shows: an institutional exhibition in Spain, at Center for Contemporary Art Caja de Burgos – CAB, an exhibition in Mexico City at Henrique Guerrero Gallery, and a publication. Throughout 2019 and 2020 concluded a walking cross of the Large Transpirenaic Route – GR11, from Cantabrian Sea (Cape Higuer) to the Mediterranean Sea (Cabo de Creus), in two blocks of 23 days each. This enterprise is part of the production of the solo show to be presented at Center for Contemporary Art Caja de Burgos – CAB (October 2021).
Situated in a privileged area in the city of Porto, Kubikgallery emerged in 2010 as a space of artistic promotion with the main purpose of representing Portuguese and foreign artists, not only in Portugal but also externally, through successive participations in international art fairs. Therefore, it aims to promote cultural interchange, enriching the exhibition of art and its knowledge by the public. Simultaneously, as a cultural and artistic entity, the gallery strives in engaging the promotion and growth of contemporary production and creation, excelling by professionalism and quality. Through its singular exhibition space, many forms of curation, practices and concepts are possible, opening up the spectrum of the aesthetic experience for the creators and for the spectators. Kubikgallery presents itself innovative, bold, ambitious and, above all, active and present, moving at the pace that pulses the most contemporary art.
