For this year’s edition of SPARK Art Fair Vienna, Lou Jaworski conceives an overall installation presenting new, modular wall- and floor installations. The relief-like arrangements are composed of ferrite magnets, neon tubes and parts of server racks. These are complemented by new marble works, which at first glance resemble commercial neon fluorescent tubes and whose solid materiality contrasts with the fragile quality of glass.
Lou Jaworski (*1981 in Warsaw, Poland) studied sculpture and installation at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Prof. Gregor Schneider and received his diploma with distinction in 2016. From 2017 to 2020 he has been working as an assistant of Prof. Gregor Hildebrandt’s class. Jaworski works with magnetic materials, iron, silver, graphite or meteorites for his installations and sculptures. His works of splintered or geometrically shaped ferrite magnets are characterized by the tense interaction of material autonomy, ephemeral abstraction and physical laws. Most of his works are concept-based and implemented in a site-specific manner. The artist deals with metaphysical questions associated with formal reduction as well as with the phenomena of human perception. His works were u. a. exhibited in Phingyao (China), New York, Munich and Tel Aviv. In 2017 Jaworski was part of the Festival of Future Nows at Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin, under the direction of Udo Kittelmann. In 2016 he received the debut award from the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture and in 2017 the studio grant from the City of Munich. Lou Jaworski’s works are part of the Bavarian State Painting Collections and are represented in private collections in Germany and Switzerland.
Established in March 2020, max goelitz presents a contemporary, international, and intergenerational program focusing on concept-based positions, often linked to technology and science or that are following in the footsteps of minimal art. Following a collaborative approach max goelitz operates in a global network of partner galleries – such as OMR, Mexico City and Francois Ghebaly, Los Angeles.
