Galerie Meyer Kainer was founded by Christian Meyer and Renate Kainer in 1998. After exhibiting at Porzellangasse in Vienna until 1999, Meyer Kainer, together with collegues, established the gallery center in Eschenbachgasse. The 200-square-meter venue of Galerie Meyer Kainer was designed and constructed by Kühn Malvezzi Architects. Besides representing well-established artists such as Franz West, Heimo Zobernig, Liam Gillick, Yoshitomo Nara, and Raymond Pettibon, Galerie Meyer Kainer sets a high value on promoting the careers of a younger generation of artists such as Gelitin, Sarah Morris, Marcin Maciejowski, Christian Jankowski, and Mathias Poledna—all of them now enjoying international attention and approval. Through special exhibitions and projects at the Felsenvilla in Baden, as well as hosting the first solo exhibitions of now-highly respected Contemporary artists in Austria, the gallery has made itself a name as an institution and as a space for innovative, Contemporary Art. Since 2007, Galerie Meyer Kainer regularly organizes concerts and exhibitions at the Boltenstern. Room, an off-space located above the main exhibition rooms.
