In previously unshown works that will be exhibited in SPARK, Wolf transforms his material research and carries his practice onto the paper. Thick layers of paints on the paper create highly textured monochromatic compositions. Remix series showcases Wolf’s diverse use of structural objects, he takes old stencils, cuts them and mixes them to compose new visuals. The series turns into a remix of existing images in order to find new ways of figuration and abstraction, through this approach reality becomes fiction.
Clemens Wolf (born 1981 in Vienna) studied painting with Ursula Hübner at the University of Art and Design Linz. In his artistic work he deals with the capturing of irreproducible moments. At the beginning of this involvement stood the urban space with its ruins and fences. Wolf captured the beauty of decay and transience in large, monochrome landscape paintings. In his more recent works, the artist has swapped the image for the material. The question of figuration and abstraction plays a central role in his practice. Wolf has had exhibitions in China, Switzerland, France, Germany and the USA. He is represented internationally by several galleries and is part of renowned collections such as the Albertina Museum.
Since the day it was founded as an initiative, SANATORIUM has carried out many exhibitions both at the national and international level. Evolving into a gallery later on, it has had the opportunity to participate in many national and international fairs, as well as hosting many curatorial group exhibitions which also involved artists the gallery itself represents.
