As part of her graduation at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna, Olga Georgieva presented in 2012, a more than 9 meters long drawing on paper as well as an house made out of hand carved woodcuts… both artworks under the title „Expansion of the rational zone“. Since her beginning, Olga Georgieva ́s path was determined by autobiographical motives and focused on interpersonal relationships. Coming from a quiet conservative family, she left Bulgaria at the age of 18, to study in Vienna. What she saw as remarkable differences in individual and collective behavior made a strong impression on her and she started to document her own daily life, encounters with peoples but also those who offer themselves to her observations. She „collects“ motives with her cell phone ́s digital camera and interlace private and anonym memories from people met in the street or any crowded place like subway stations… She brings all those recorded portraits in drawings on paper, live-paintings in public spaces and objects made out of hand carved woodcuts. Olga Georgieva´s mains exploration fields are on one hand the rational zone we are dealing with every day, and on the other hand, the practice of adjustment between social distance and closeness we may need or miss. For her, this mental zone is structured by education, laws of reasons for some, laws of morality for the other. 2012, she started to symbolize the borders of this zone through red lines and since introduce them systematically in her drawings. Olga Georgieva deals with „an invisible domination system – our own system created by the laws of our mind. Our decisions are ruled and determined by the images of limit. To break this reign and to cross the border, however, has the consequence that a new border immediately appears …“ The
