Peles Duo, formerly Peles Empire, is a contemporary art collaboration by Katharina Stöver and Barbara Wolff, established in 2005. Named after Romania’s Peleș Castle, symbolizing diverse architectural styles, the duo blends sculpture, installation, wallpaper, and drawing. Using plaster, paper, and fabric, they recreate architectural elements, blurring reality and representation. Their works explore memory, time, and space, prompting reflection on our environment’s mutable nature. Peles Duo’s creations, marked by meticulous craftsmanship and captivating aesthetics, earned recognition in global exhibitions, defining contemporary art. Through an evolving artistic journey, they challenge perspectives, redefining visual expression.
Peles Duo (formerly Peles Empire) was founded in 2005 in Frankfurt am Main and is a collaboration of the artists Barbara Wolff (1980 Făgăraș, Romania, lives in Berlin) and Katharina Stöver (1982 Gießen, lives in Berlin). Both artists studied at the Städelschule in Frankfurt under Wolfgang Tillmans, Michael Krebber, and Hermann Nitsch and at the
Slade School of Fine Art and the Royal Academy Schools in London. They participate in exhibition projects

Founded in late 2023 by Simeon and Zeynep Brugger, Galerie Brugger in Klaus, Vorarlberg, presents a hub for contemporary art. The gallery’s program consists of international artists such as Billie Clarken, Oliver Laric, Peles Duo, Hubert Schmalix, and Lukas Thaler, representing diverse perspectives and mediums. By bringing international artists to a regional setting, Galerie Brugger thus seeks to break down artistic boundaries, offering a platform for local audiences to engage with the global dialogue on contemporary art. Currently under renovation, Galerie Brugger’s permanent exhibition space will open in 2024 with an inaugural exhibition by Oliver Laric.
