An impressionistic play with the perception of colour and light that originates in the studio as an alchemical workshop and only fully unfolds in the interaction between the work and the viewer. One could also say: art is created in the field of tension between production and reception. Schaberl’s rarely entirely monochrome central forms, which exist in paintings, photographs and works on paper, expand the spectrum of an art of perception that unfolds its magic precisely in the deviation from a focal point: The colour-changing images change their appearance depending on the perspective. They overcome a supposed anachronism in the multi-layered aesthetic experience, resist the everyday overkill of information, the accelerated flood of images and the conceptual discursivisation of art, echo current fashions and new technologies. Born in 1961 in Feldbach in Styria, studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Long-term stays in the USA and Berlin, since 2002 Robert Schaberl lives and works in Vienna. The exploration of sensual perception is one of the central themes in Robert Schaberl’s work. He approaches it through what he himself calls central forms, especially circles. The artist works with the finest light reflections and reflexions, applies countless gossamer layers of paint on top of each other with extreme precision, creating fascinating iridescent effects that open up new color and spatial effects for the viewer. Robert Schaberl’s paintings are represented in numerous private and public collections worldwide. National and international solo exhibitions and exhibition participations, 2021 at the ALBERTINA Modern in Vienna as part of the exhibition ‚Wonderland‘.

In the center of Salzburg, in historically interesting premises, L.art Galerie represents contemporary positions of internationally established, but also young emerging artists, for whom we are mentor and promoter. We maintain a high standard of quality, pay great attention to content and craft, and represent an art that transcends generations, which we position as predominantly female. Theater, literature, music or painting performances enrich the 2-monthly changing art exhibitions. We are constantly setting new accents and will continue to expand the gallery program with new exciting artists, whom we represent at national as well as international art fairs.
